Christmas Market at Vörösmarty Square

Where: Vörösmarty tér, Budapest.

This square is the beating heart of Pest, located at the crossroads of some of the most important shopping streets. That’s why it also hosts one of the most popular Christmas markets every year. Among the wooden stalls, you will find fragrant food prepared in large iron pans and hot drinks. But don’t miss the famous kürtöskalács, which we prefer filled with chocolate. Here, you should also try the renowned goulash, as well as sausages and roast meat.

This market opened a few years ago on “Fashion Street,” which connects the two main squares in the center of Pest and is set directly in front of the windows of some of the most famous fashion chains. Pass by here if you want to move from Vörösmarty Square to Erzsébet Square or if you’re looking to make new purchases.

Erzsébet Square – Christmas Market

Where: Erzsébet tér, Budapest.

This square is one of the busiest areas of the city, situated on the border between the nightlife district (Jewish Quarter) and the shopping area in the center of Pest. The Erzsébet Square Christmas Market is an excellent stop if you’re just passing through and want to grab a bite to eat. Be sure to try some strudel or mulled wine and coffee here. If you want to see the city from above, you can do so thanks to the Ferris wheel that’s open all year round.

It is also here that the city’s tallest Christmas tree is displayed every year.

In the restored gardens of Budapest Castle, a Christmas market is set up that differs from those on the Pest side and perhaps possesses a more authentic spirit. The few stalls may not offer the most varied food that you will find in other parts of the city, but you can admire the Hungarian capital and the majestic Danube River from an elevated vantage point.

Where: Király u. 13, Budapest.

Gozsdu Court is a passage that connects the center of Budapest’s nightlife district. During the day, you will find stalls and typical products, and in the evening, the entertainment and music of the many bars overlooking this narrow corridor nestled between the Art Deco-style houses. If you are ready for some action, this is the place you’re looking for.

Definitely recommended, especially if you are with family.

Bálna – Advent Festival

Where: Fővám tér 11-12, Budapest.

Although located slightly outside the most central area, we still suggest you visit this market. Why? For the skating rink in front of the Danube, offering a view of the illuminated castle in the evening. Or perhaps because of the excellent beers and drinks offered by the breweries, which are usually crowded with young people and students. The Bálna Christmas market may not be very sumptuous, but it is certainly unique and perfect for those who just want to spend a pleasant evening.
